Never Miss a Post!

Bittersweet Super Bowl

February 4, 2013 By Lynlee

Like many, many people, our family gets together to watch the big game on Super Bowl Sundays every year, but this year, OUR team, the San Francisco 49ers, were playing, which made it all that much more special and exciting! My husband was born in the Bay Area of Northern California, where he grew up a Niners fan. And when my family and I first moved to the US, the team held their training camp in our town and we used to watch them practice. Needless to say, we are long-time fans of the city and team! And although they ended up not winning {after a very stressful, anxious and ulcer-inducing game!}, we had such a fun and yummy time rooting for our team that it almost makes up for the loss… almost. 😉

Our spread of game day goodies was super fun to put together! Since my husband is a die hard football fan, I had already collected quite a bit of football tableware throughout the years, which I utilized to either hold the various savory and sweet dishes or as added decor. I created some printables to adorn the cupcakes {gasp! no fondant?!}, paper straws and for food labels, which related back to the sport or city of San Francisco and its gold-mining mascot. I re-used my blackboard {originally from the “Growing Up 80’s” party} as a backdrop and drew the Super Bowl logo with chalk. The table had a vintage feel, especially with the black and white images on the displayed plates, with just a tad of glitz in the glitter gold chevron background in the paper elements!

This definitely ended up being a bittersweet post, but the fun time we had cheering on our team and spending time with family ensured it wasn’t a total loss! And here’s hoping we can do it all again next year! ♥
