Even when I think I have everything planned out, life can get soooo CRAZY and time just seems to fly by. I feel like the year just began and in a blink of an eye we are already heading into June and Summer vacation! How does that happen?! As with many resolutions, I start out the year vowing to stay on top of things, including updating my calendar and making sure I anticipate friends’ and loved ones’ birthdays. Then reality sets in and between work, school, swim practice and everyday life, I inevitably fall behind and end up scrambling when we’re celebrating a birthday and I don’t have a card! Can you relate?!?! My friends and family members end up receiving belated cards and though I try to come up with creative reasons and excuses, I’m running out of them! Plus, I feel like the prices of cards are becoming a bit excessive ~ between the card and gift wrapping, the cost is rivaling that of the present itself!
So, the other day when I was shopping at my local Walmart for a belated birthday card for my sister-in-law, I was browsing through the Hallmark aisle and saw that they have cards starting at 47 cents! Ummm… yes, you read that right! Where the heck have I been to not know this?! The super affordable price got me thinking that instead of always scrambling or being late, I could totally manage stocking up on cards for future occasions! Though I do have birthdays I can anticipate throughout the year, there are surely times when an unexpected one pops up, such as my daughter’s school friends. And so began my mission to purchase an array of birthday cards for a variety of recipients to stash away for the next celebration.
When it comes to gift-giving, I have to admit I’m a bit of a stickler for presentation and ensuring everything matches. So, once I picked out a mixture of cards, I rounded the corner and stumbled upon gift wrap heaven! Lol! As I perused the many selections, I noticed there were some fun wrapping paper colorways and patterns that would coordinate with the cards in my cart, perfect to mix and match. I picked up a few that would pair nicely with the cards, along with bows, ribbon and tag accessories.
Look at all the super adorable items I got!!! The majority of the birthday cards were between 47¢ and 97¢, with the exception of the ©2015 MARVEL Avengers cards, which I picked up specifically for a couple of friends’ boys that are ENORMOUS fans of the franchise! My strategy was to choose some girly cards, some boyish cards and some designs more suitable for adults so that I have all my bases covered going forward. Then I selected one wrapping paper pattern that could easily be interchanged with all the cards from one specific category, as well as matching bows and ribbon.
As you can see, my girly selection is super sweet! The adorable designs are soft, but colorful and match perfectly with the shiny wrapping paper and bows. My daughter is dying for that precious little cake slice card!
For the more boyish recipients, an infusion of some darker colors, along with designs applicable for a variety of ages. And, of course, a ©2015 MARVEL Avengers card for a Captain America lover in our life!
Since I had a specific kiddo in mind who ADORES the ©2015 MARVEL Avengers and has an upcoming birthday, I decided to splurge on some character cards {one even comes with a glow-in-the-dark poster!} with a coordinating gift bag and star tag!
For the adults, while the sentiments and wishes are just a tad more mature, the color and fun aspects remain the same in my selections! I fell in love with the multi-color polka dot wrapping paper that just went with everything! And again, you can see that the same bows coordinate with all the categories of cards and gift wrap.
Now, since I wasn’t used to buying my birthday cards in bulk, I was determined to keep them organized in a manner that was super simple and easily accessible in my usual rush! I opted for a small gift bag to store the cards and added little sticky tags to catalogue them. Since cards come in a variety of sizes, just make sure to add your tags to the taller cards/envelopes for more visibility!
I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be prepared and organized for the many birthdays to come this year! No more last minute scurrying around or apologizing with belated sentiments! These are just a small sample of the amazingly cute Hallmark cards starting at 47 cents available at Walmart, so make sure to check out the entire assortment. 🙂
