This post is sponsored by Cost Plus World Market, but as always, all ideas and opinions are my own!
Just prior to Thanksgiving, I posted about my excitement in partnering with Cost Plus World Market to throw a Downton Abbey themed par-TEA, while simultaneously binge-watching all four seasons of the show, consequently generating both good and bad news. The bad news is I have now watched every single episode that has aired here in the USA and am experiencing slight withdrawals, but the good news is I had the immense pleasure of being virtually transported to the abbey, as my family and I partook in all the #DotheDownton fun by hosting a tea party of our own! As an avid tea party fan, my daughter, Anabelle, was especially delighted to attend the party and even invited her American Girl doll to join in on the fun.
I was so enthusiastic and anxious to purchase all the gorgeous items in the Cost Plus World Market Downton Abbey shop that I was stalking my local store as they were still putting all the product out on display! Once I browsed through the assortment, along with the beautiful holiday merchandise, I decided I wanted to give it a seasonal spin and determined that a Christmas at Downton garden tea party would be just perfect.
Instead of a traditional table setting, I opted instead for a buffet table. From the Downton Abbey collection, I purchased the 2‑tiered serving stand, teacups and saucers and coordinating plates and styled them directly on the table, even utilizing the beautiful boxes in which they came as display items. I also included the adorable butler nutcracker, Victorian frame {with a picture of family and staff!} and the DA mug I received when shopping at the store on Black Friday!
In addition to the crochet runner and tablecloth, I wanted to incorporate more lace details, which I did with the use of doilies. I utilized both large and small paper doilies to create a couple of buntings to string across the trees by simply folding them in half and hot gluing them to some jute rope. Some of the doilies on the table banner were embellished with paper fans, similar to the ones I made for our Book of Life party a couple of months back, embellished with black bow ties. And finally, I crinkled the centers of small doilies and adhered the back with tape to create lacey paper flowers that I used to accentuate various parts of the table.
The delicious food we served included:
♥ Downton Abbey blackcurrant jam and lemon curd
♥ English crumpets
♥ Cucumber and turkey sandwiches {shaped with tree cookie cutters}
♥ Miniature bundt cakes with fondant toppers and a red velvet holiday bundt cake
♥ Downton Abbey shortbread tin
And, of course, the main offering: tea! We served The Republic of Tea’s Downton Abbey Christmas Tea and the Butler’s Pantry Blend in the elegant teapot.
I wrapped some party gifts with Downton Abbey paper, as well as matching Winter Soiree paper to add different patterns and colors, then completed the favors with additional mugs and totes from the Black Friday giveaways and holiday crackers!
As you can see, we had such a fun, yet dignified Christmas at Downton tea party that day. We also loved getting dressed up for the occasion! Hope you are inspired to throw a tea party of your own and don’t forget to enter the Cost Plus World Market sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for two to London, especially if you’re a Downton Abbey fan, as you can visit Highclere castle, the DA set, plus a $1000 CPWM gift card!!!!
And lastly, Cost Plus World Market is giving away two prize packages, inclusive of many of the Downton Abbey items I utilized for our own celebration! Simply enter below by end of day Friday 12/26 for a chance to win!
