I can’t believe Halloween is only one week away!!! We are especially excited for the holiday this year, as we will be spending it at Disneyland for Mickey’s Halloween Party! It is our very first time attending this special event and are all ready with our costumes, which we can’t wait to share! In the meantime, we are prepping for a fun week with various festivities at my daughter’s school, including their annual trunk-or-treat. I’ve had so much fun coming up with themes and decorations for dressing up our car the past couple of years, from It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown to last year’s Nightmare Before Christmas! In brainstorming ideas for this year’s motif, my daughter, Anabelle and I came up with a Disney theme in honor of our upcoming trip to The Happiest Place on Earth! Our focus was on a Mickey and Minnie trunk-or-treat, of course!
I started out by carving some foam pumpkins to resemble Mickey and Minnie, gluing smaller pumpkins for their ears. I made a fabric banner with various patterns in a orange, black, white and gold color palette and added HAPPY HALLOWEEN in the iconic Disney font, cut from gold glitter cardstock with the help of my Cricut machine. I then added some marquee letters decorated with glitter paper and added mouse ears to the “O“s. I lined the trunk with a beautiful black tulle tablecloth from Candy Crush Shop and placed all the decor over it, which worked perfectly!
Since I still had the ghosts from our Charlie Brown trunk a couple of years ago, I decided it’d be fun to recycle one of them and make a Mickey ghost! The structure of the ghost is made from rolled chicken wire and felt fabric is draped over to create the ghost. I cut Mickey’s recognizable features out of black felt and hot glued them, then finished it off with some mouse ears. I love having these three-dimensional figures outside the car greeting the little trunk-or-treaters!
Anabelle modeled her absolutely adorable spiderweb Minnie ears, custom-made by Be Ear Guest for our upcoming Halloween trip! I will definitely be wearing them as I hand out candy this week.
This was a super simple theme to execute, but extremely cute and magical for trick-or-treaters young and old! And you can find the step-by-step tutorial to carve this faux Minnie Pumpkin here. What are some of of your other favorite trunk-or-treat ideas?! I’d love to hear more to give me ideas for next year!
Merci Beaucoup!
